Job Summary

The Chief Training Officer is a key member of the City of Kingston Fire Department, responsible for coordinating and implementing training programs for firefighters and emergency responders. This role requires a strong understanding of modern firefighting techniques, emergency services, and apparatus operation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement training programs for Career and Volunteer firefighters, ensuring compliance with NFPA standards and provincial regulations.
  • Manage the Regional Training Centre, overseeing equipment, supplies, and facilities.
  • Coordinate live fire training, incident safety, and emergency response planning.
  • Provide coaching and assessments for staff in the training division, ensuring professional standards are maintained.
  • Develop and facilitate training for personnel in fire suppression, prevention, health and safety, and other related matters.
  • Prepare and submit training schedules, reports, and budget requirements.
  • Oversee expenditures, purchasing, and overtime within the training division.
Requirements
  • Extensive knowledge of modern firefighting, emergency services, and apparatus operation.
  • NFPA certifications (Firefighter Levels I and II, Fire Officer I, Fire Service Instructor I) with a commitment to obtaining higher-level certifications within 24 months.
  • Proven leadership and technical skills, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and familiar with SharePoint, Clicksense, and Firehouse.
  • Valid Class DZ Ontario driver's license and current First Aid and CPR certificates.
Work Environment

The Chief Training Officer will work in a fast-paced environment, interacting with firefighters, emergency responders, and department staff. The role requires strong leadership, technical, and communication skills, with a commitment to excellence in customer service.
