Position Overview

Join Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) as a Recreation Assistant

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a dedicated Recreation Assistant to become part of our team. This role is essential in enhancing the quality of life for our patients and residents through engaging recreational activities.

Responsibilities of the Recreation Assistant include:

Collaborating within a team to implement recreation programs under the guidance of the Recreation Therapist. Performing various tasks such as: organizing and supervising patients/clients/residents during outings, coordinating the transport of patients/clients/residents to and from activities, demonstrating recreation activity techniques, adapting recreation activities to support patients/clients/residents in achieving their highest level of independence as directed by the Recreation Therapist, providing guidance to volunteers, assessing and reporting on the progress and participation of patients/clients/residents to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team, setting up equipment and materials for scheduled activities, maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment. May be required to operate a bus with a capacity of up to 25 passengers (including the driver) for community engagement activities as needed.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or a comparable combination of education, training, and experience. A valid Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted) is preferred.

Skills & Competencies

Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to instruct and teach effectively. Organizational skills to manage work efficiently. Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Proficiency in operating relevant equipment. Interpersonal skills to interact positively with others.

Additional Information

A valid Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted) is preferred.

Work hours, including days off and work location, may vary based on operational needs and collective agreements. Successful candidates may need to undergo a Criminal Records Review Check.
