Position Overview: We are currently seeking a dedicated and adaptable individual for the role of a Floater Basic Custodian. This is a permanent full-time position that requires immediate availability.

Primary Responsibilities: The successful candidate will be stationed at a designated school but will be deployed across various locations to cover for absent personnel and to assist with special projects or during high-demand periods. Mileage reimbursement will be provided in accordance with the established travel policy.

Key Duties Include:

Facility Cleaning:

  • Operate and maintain all custodial equipment.
  • Execute comprehensive cleaning tasks as per established checklists and protocols.

Facility Maintenance:

  • Replace lighting fixtures.
  • Clear snow and ice from walkways.
  • Operate snow removal equipment.
  • Inspect and maintain roof integrity.
  • Utilize lawn maintenance machinery.
  • Conduct minor repairs as needed.
  • Perform health and safety inspections.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of secondary education (Grade 12 diploma).
  • Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, and navigate stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Mechanical skills with experience in one or more trades such as plumbing, electrical work, or carpentry.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and professional skills.
  • Proficiency in computer usage, including Google Apps for Education.
  • Experience with machinery operation, including floor buffers and lawn mowers.
  • Knowledge of safe handling practices for cleaning chemicals and supplies.
  • Consistent attendance record will be a factor in the selection process.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a dependable vehicle.

Work Schedule: This position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, year-round, with shifts as necessary.

Compensation: The hourly wage ranges from $23.20 to $23.66, aligned with the Basic Custodian pay scale under the collective agreement.

Benefits: The role includes comprehensive health and dental benefits, covering extended health services, paramedical services, dental care (including orthodontics), and a health spending account.

Pension: Employees will participate in a defined pension plan.
