The Event Security Officer plays a crucial role in maintaining order during events, implementing policies, guidelines, and regulations to ensure the safety of staff, attendees, and property. This position requires a solid understanding of the layout of various departments, buildings, access routes, and entry protocols.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage crowd dynamics and identify potential issues related to crowd control.
- Conduct screening of attendees upon entry using metal detectors, bag inspections, and handheld wands.
- Execute safety protocols and emergency procedures, ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and organizational policies.
- Respond to incidents effectively, coordinating emergency responses to criminal activities and significant events while making prompt decisions to mitigate risks.
- Assess and manage risks to ensure safety and operational integrity, alerting the Command Centre for emergency responder activation when necessary.
- Maintain comprehensive records of all incidents and events.
- Deliver outstanding customer service to guests, staff, and the public, assisting as needed and diffusing high-pressure situations.
- Conduct regular patrols and security checks of designated areas.
- Act as the Incident Commander during emergencies, large gatherings, and protests, collaborating with local law enforcement and emergency services.
- Perform additional duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent is preferred.
- Possession of a valid Serve-It-Right (SIRs) certification is required.
- Applicants must be at least nineteen (19) years old.
- Prior training or experience in security services or crowd management is preferred.
- A valid Driver's License is necessary.
- Ability to stand or walk for the duration of the shift.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience in public relations is advantageous.
- Excellent judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Capability to work effectively with others.
- A satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CRC) is required.
- Physical capability to manage confrontational or challenging situations.
- This role is governed by the RWDSU Collective Agreement.
