About the Role:

Romero Games is excited to announce an opportunity for a Combat Designer to contribute to the development of an innovative First Person Shooter. This role is pivotal in shaping the combat experience within a rich narrative framework.

As a key member of our design team, you will focus on crafting immersive missions and encounters that enhance gameplay. Collaborating closely with the Game Director, you will design engaging combat scenarios that align with our game’s vision, ensuring that each encounter is both challenging and rewarding for players.

Your Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute dynamic combat encounters that resonate with the overall game mechanics.
  • Work in tandem with level designers to ensure seamless integration of encounters into the game environment.
  • Adjust difficulty levels and pacing to create a balanced player experience.
  • Design enemy behaviors and AI patterns to foster diverse combat situations.
  • Participate in playtesting to gather insights and refine combat designs.
  • Collaborate with artists and level designers to maintain visual clarity in combat areas.
  • Document combat design processes through flowcharts and written descriptions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends to incorporate innovative combat design practices.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3 years in combat or level design, specifically for FPS titles.
  • Experience in a combat or level designer role with a completed AAA title.
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for game design.
  • Proficiency in game development tools, particularly Unreal Engine.
  • In-depth understanding of FPS mechanics and player engagement.
  • Experience with AI scripting and behavior design.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively.
  • A willingness to receive and act on constructive feedback.
  • A genuine passion for gaming and familiarity with current FPS trends.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience in multiplayer combat design.
  • Understanding of level design principles and environmental aesthetics.
  • Knowledge of sound design and its influence on gameplay.
  • Familiarity with scripting languages such as C#, Python, or Lua.
