Key Responsibilities:
- Design and uphold standards for nursing practice and patient care, fostering an environment that promotes staff development and excellence in nursing.
- Oversee the onboarding and training processes for all personnel within the Fertility department.
- Encourage the philosophy, objectives, and standards of the Nursing Department.
- Collaborate in setting goals and objectives for Labour and Delivery, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, safe care.
- Provide leadership to cultivate a positive workplace atmosphere.
- Maintain proficiency across all areas of practice, articulating and linking practice to research outcomes.
- Advance innovative nursing education through various modalities, including simulation, online learning, and classroom instruction.
- Assess nursing clinical practices and competencies, identifying educational needs and supporting personal learning plans.
- Utilize best practices and program planning principles to evaluate nursing education initiatives.
- Engage in quality improvement efforts, including the development and assessment of standards, policies, and procedures.
- Contribute to the formulation of evaluation strategies to monitor relevant nurse-sensitive indicators and practice modifications.
- Promote continuous learning and professional growth among nursing staff.
- Participate in nursing department educational initiatives.
- Engage in relevant committees within the unit and nursing department.
- Support the advancement of the nursing profession through active involvement with nursing organizations and professional associations.
- Assist in performance evaluations and goal-setting for staff, providing timely feedback as necessary.
- Perform additional duties as required in alignment with job classification.
Qualifications:
Mandatory:
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
- Graduation from a CNO-approved bachelor's degree in nursing program or equivalent education and experience.
- 3-5 years of recent experience in women's health and/or perinatal nursing.
- Membership in the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO).
Preferred:
- Master of Nursing (MN).
- Recent experience in fertility nursing.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Experience in IV/venipuncture.
- Experience in facilitating group education sessions.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Expertise in adult learning principles.
- Proven ability to lead change initiatives.
- Eligibility for cross-appointment to an academic institution.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Proficiency in information technology and supporting staff in its use.
- Ability to apply nursing knowledge related to infertility and reproductive hormones.
- Confidence in discussing sensitive issues with patients and families.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including members of 2SLGBTQI+ communities.
