Alberta Health Services is seeking a dedicated Personal Care Assistant to become an integral part of our nursing team. The successful candidate will have the chance to work in Home Care, contributing significantly to the well-being of clients in community settings.
Role Overview:
As a Personal Care Assistant (PCA), you will collaborate closely with a multi-disciplinary team to provide essential personal assistance, including support for activities of daily living and various support services to patients who require both short-term and ongoing assistance. Your responsibilities will align with the patient care plan and the policies and procedures of the facility.
In this position, you will engage with patients, families, and caregivers throughout the continuum of care, whether in home, community, or health care facilities. You will assist nurses in delivering routine care that addresses patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs. Additionally, you will support organized activities or programs and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and overall well-being.
Working under the guidance of a regulated health professional, you will help maintain a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors while ensuring effective communication with both patients and health professionals.
Required Qualifications:
Candidates must have completed a Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and maintain active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum may also be considered.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification through the Heart and Stroke Foundation is necessary. Candidates must be able to drive in all weather conditions and meet the physical demands of the position, which include frequent walking, bending, lifting, standing, and driving for extended periods. This role involves transferring patients of varying sizes and degrees of mobility, as well as transporting supplies and equipment. Compliance with CCHSS standards and AHS qualifications is mandatory, and documentation of ongoing education must be submitted regularly. Basic computer skills, including proficiency with the Windows operating system, Outlook, and MS Teams, are also required. Flexibility is essential, as this position involves shift work that may include both day and evening shifts.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in a Home Care environment is preferred, along with certification and experience in Medication Assistance. Familiarity with Connect Care training or experience is also advantageous.
