About This Role
Agnico Eagle is seeking a highly skilled Mine Superintendent to join our Mine Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing all underground mining activities to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily production, coordinate with other departments, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Lead and manage the underground mining team, including Shift Supervisors, operators, and support staff.
- Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to develop team capabilities.
- Promote a positive safety culture, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Actively promote, monitor, and enforce compliance of personnel with safe work practices.
- Oversee daily underground operations to meet production targets, including drilling, blasting, loading, and hauling activities.
- Ensure efficient use of resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Monitor and adjust mine plans in coordination with technical services to optimize production and minimize costs.
- Ensure all operations are conducted in accordance with safety, health, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, inspections, and audits to identify and mitigate risks.
- Investigate incidents and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Collaborate with the Technical Services, Maintenance, and Processing teams to align production goals with overall mine plans.
- Manage inventory of mining supplies, explosives, and equipment to support uninterrupted operations.
- Identify opportunities for operational improvements and implement initiatives to enhance productivity, safety, and cost efficiency.
- Analyze production data and key performance indicators to track progress and drive performance.
- Track and report on key metrics such as production volumes, development meters, and equipment utilization.
- Maintain and develop technical management skills and knowledge.
- In collaboration with the Maintenance Superintendent, organize overall maintenance of mine equipment in a cost-effective manner.
- Be visible in the workplace.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in underground mining operations, with at least 5 years in a frontline supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of underground mining methods, equipment, and safety regulations.
- Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a diverse team.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively across all levels.
- Ability to perform all duties of a Captain position.
- Excellent working knowledge of all Microsoft Office Suite applications especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint.
