Recreation Program Leaders (Temporary Instructors)
ROLE OVERVIEW
The Regional District of Nanaimo is in search of several temporary part-time instructors to take on the responsibilities of Recreation Program Leaders.
These leaders will be integral members of a recreation team dedicated to providing enriching program experiences for children, youth, and families.
Under the guidance of the Recreation Coordination team, the leaders will play a key role in planning and executing engaging recreation programs. Responsibilities will include managing registrations; organizing, leading, and facilitating program activities; ensuring direct supervision, leadership, and safety of participants; fostering inclusion for children with diverse abilities; delivering exceptional customer service; engaging with parents; maintaining program supplies, equipment, and facilities; and performing other related tasks as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
Candidates should possess general qualifications such as leadership experience (paid and/or volunteer) working directly with children in recreation or childcare environments, or other relevant experience.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, a foundational understanding of recreation programs, and the ability to guide children's behavior are essential.Applicants must hold a current first aid certification (Emergency First Aid, Standard First Aid, or Emergency Childcare First Aid) and CPR B or C, along with having completed Grade 12.
Additional certifications such as a Class 4 Driver's License, High Five, NCCP, Canucks Autism Network, Physical Literacy 101, National Lifeguard, Water Safety Instructor, Child and Youth Care, training in nature interpretation and education, and outdoor skill development are considered advantageous.
POSITION DETAILS
These roles are contingent upon program registration, and work hours will vary based on demand; however, typical hours will be Monday to Friday from approximately 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with potential evening hours until 9:00 p.m. and weekend hours. The compensation for this position will be $23.25 per hour.
