Position Overview
The County of Hastings is seeking a temporary full-time Nursing Director for a period of approximately 10 months. This Non-Union role reports directly to the Home Administrator and is pivotal in delivering safe, resident-centered, and high-quality care within the Long-Term Care Home. The Nursing Director will ensure adherence to Ministry regulations and County policies while overseeing the planning, organization, direction, coordination, and evaluation of care services provided in the facility.
Core Responsibilities
- Embrace and promote the mission, vision, and values of Hastings/Quinte Long-Term Care services, emphasizing a person-centered care philosophy.
- Formulate, interpret, and ensure departmental goals align with Ministry standards, legislation, and County policies.
- Recruit and select candidates, conducting interviews and making hiring recommendations.
- Participate in team member evaluations and provide coaching and disciplinary actions as necessary.
- Work within collective agreements and liaise with bargaining units to foster beneficial resolutions.
- Facilitate in-service training and encourage ongoing professional development among team members.
- Supervise in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and accepted nursing practices.
- Utilize interpersonal skills to empower team members in enhancing quality care.
- Engage in departmental meetings and collaborate with home leaders to ensure holistic care.
- Foster positive relationships among team members and residents.
- Coordinate with community partners and resources.
- Maintain communication with registered staff regarding residents' medical care and health conditions.
- Ensure timely communication with families and external agencies regarding resident concerns.
- Guarantee that all residents receive optimal nursing care in compliance with Nursing Policies and Procedures.
- Oversee medication administration and ensure the safekeeping of drugs and narcotics.
- Maintain accurate resident medical records and ensure current care planning.
- Provide regular reports on departmental operations to the Administrator.
- Develop and maintain Nursing department policies in line with best practices and applicable legislation.
- Engage in nursing research and develop evidence-based policies and procedures.
- Report and document any incidents of abuse or neglect in accordance with relevant legislation.
- Implement a zero-tolerance policy for bullying or harassment.
- Adhere to emergency response procedures and participate in practice drills.
- Ensure high-quality, safe care delivery and a secure working environment.
- Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations.
- Registered Nurse with a current Certificate of Competence in Ontario.
- B.Sc.N. Degree.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Licensed and in good standing with the College of Nurses.
- A minimum of three years in a managerial or supervisory nursing role.
- At least one year of experience in long-term care.
- Strong planning and management capabilities.
- Proven leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to supervise a diverse nursing staff.
- Self-sufficient with excellent decision-making and time management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with residents and staff.
- Ability to foster a supportive environment for residents.
SALARY RANGE: $116,494 - $136,281 per annum
Work Schedule
Normal hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional overtime required for project completion.
