Job Summary

The Intermediate Steel Detailer is a key member of our team, responsible for developing drawings based on client specifications and providing leadership to other drafters. This role requires a strong understanding of technical structural drafting terminology and the ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop drawings based on client specifications and provide leadership to other drafters.
  • Work closely with Senior Detailers and Checkers on all aspects of a project.
  • Mentor, train, and support Junior Detailers.
  • Identify and report any contract discrepancies or inconsistencies to supervision.
  • Model all facets of moderately complex structures and input connections.
  • Produce clear, accurate, and well-laid-out erection drawings.
  • Identify and challenge connection design anomalies and inconsistencies.
  • Edit most types of assemblies.
  • Run and issue model-generated reports and camdata.

Requirements

  • A post-secondary diploma from a structural engineering drafting and technology course or an equivalent is preferred and exhibit a willingness to study further.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in the structural steel construction industry, primarily in a fabrication drafting environment.
  • Demonstrate experience in the use of Tekla Structures.
  • A good understanding of technical structural drafting terminology is required.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of fabrication and assembly processes.
  • Have a good understanding of welding symbols and procedures.
  • Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability and willingness to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment.
  • Ability to demonstrate passion for one's work.
  • Ability to sell the vision, values, and beliefs of the organization.

Working Conditions

The incumbent is required to work in an office environment with moderate noise. The job may require the incumbent to walk stairs; be outside in inclement weather (slippery surfaces and cold); carrying objects, driving, and being exposed to normal office routines. Some positions may require standing for intermediate periods of time while completing tasks.

Physical Conditions

The incumbent is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal for extended periods of time; and extensive reading. The incumbent is also required to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
