Job Summary

Mercer Contracting is seeking a skilled Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance crew, you will be responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of our heavy equipment fleet.

Key Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot and inspect equipment to detect faults and malfunctions, utilizing computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions and order necessary parts to maintain inventory.
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, ensuring all work meets manufacturers' specifications.
  • Keep accurate maintenance records and documentation.
  • Perform welding and other maintenance work as required.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and ensure all work meets manufacturers' specifications.
  • Attach components and adjust new farm equipment.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other maintenance work as required.
  • Perform repair work on heavy trucks and service attachments and working tools.
  • Verify and repair emission control systems.
Requirements
  • Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician Red Seal Endorsement.
  • Specialization in diesel engine repair, including fuel injection systems, exhaust systems, cooling systems, air conditioning systems, lubrication systems, engine control systems, major internal engine repairs or overhaul, and installation and alignment of engines and machinery.
  • Specialization in powered equipment repair, including cable-operated working attachments, hydraulic-operated working attachments, compressors, pumps, telescopic ladders, electric generators, industrial lift trucks, and fork-lifts.
  • Specialization in mechanical maintenance and repair, including mechanical transmissions, drive trains and final drives, hydraulic transmissions, power take-offs, tracked vehicle suspensions and steering, wheel-mounted vehicle suspension and steering, highway vehicle tires and wheels, off-road vehicle tires and wheels, differentials, and brake systems.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, with regular exposure to dust, heat, and noise.
  • Ability to lift up to 23 kg (50 lbs), up to 45 kg (100 lbs), and more than 45 kg (100 lbs) as required.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent oral communication and problem-solving skills.
Working Conditions

This is a permanent, full-time position with a 40-hour workweek. The successful candidate will be required to work outdoors, in various locations, and may be required to relocate.
