Job Overview
Under the supervision of the Medical Radiation Technologist and Catheterization Lab Leader, as well as in collaboration with Cardiologists, the role involves executing established diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures within the cardiac labs. The position also encompasses responsibilities related to inventory management of supplies and equipment in the Catheterization Lab.
Qualifications and Skills
Education and Experience:
Completion of a recognized medical imaging program, accompanied by a minimum of two years of relevant experience, or a comparable combination of education and experience.
Certification:
Must be certified by the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT).
Skills and Competencies:
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with others.
• Ability to collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team environment.
• Physical capability to perform the required duties.
• Organizational skills to manage work efficiently.
• Competence in operating relevant medical equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts diagnostic and interventional angiography procedures in the cardiac and vascular catheterization labs, as well as in electrophysiology labs, under the guidance of Cardiologists.
- Executes daily start-up and quality assurance checks on cardiac and vascular imaging systems, including the Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS), adhering to established protocols prior to patient procedures.
- Prepares the procedure area by arranging necessary equipment such as contrast media injectors, OCT, IVUS, FFR, and ICE, in coordination with nursing staff, and ensures users are oriented on safe operating procedures.
- Engages with patients, physicians, and team members to discuss procedural details, consent, and medical history.
- Inputs and updates patient and procedural information into the digital imaging system, ensuring accuracy in data entry.
- Verifies that digital images and sequences obtained during procedures are correctly transferred and stored in the PACS.
- Provides training and guidance on procedures, equipment, and techniques to new staff, student technologists, and other personnel as necessary.
- Participates in quality control processes, troubleshooting, and reporting any equipment issues to the Catheterization Laboratory Supervisor or service engineer.
- Performs inventory management duties for the Catheterization Lab in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Engages in staff meetings and contributes to the revision of procedural manuals.
