Job Summary

The Equipment Rental Specialist is responsible for providing exceptional customer service to all clients via phone and in-person for the rental and sale of all types of construction/industrial equipment and store items. This role is considered the first point of contact for the company with the client, whose goal is to understand the client's equipment needs, negotiate and place orders, establish rental agreements, and support sales development and customer satisfaction efforts with a courteous, helpful, and professional attitude at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Determine/understand client equipment needs by interviewing and qualifying them; propose alternative equipment to clients, if necessary, based on information obtained using a thorough knowledge of all available equipment.
  • Negotiate price and volume of initial orders to maximize rate and volume.
  • Process large equipment orders by obtaining client information (verifying client account or obtaining a credit request for a new client); finalize details regarding time, location, and type of equipment required; select equipment/merchandise from inventory and process rental/purchase order in the computer system; arrange transportation for orders (coordinate deliveries and pickups while optimizing transportation use); handle cash transactions (perform identity checks, obtain prepayment and deposit, if necessary).
  • Secure equipment by verifying availability of equipment with the shop (perform searches to determine when unavailable equipment will be available); notify distribution and service departments of upcoming equipment needs in a timely manner; coordinate with other PCs as necessary to secure equipment.
  • Manage rental agreements (new and existing), including start and end dates of rental, rates, and all additional fees, modifications, suspensions (ensuring rapid collection of equipment), terminations (ensuring all additional fees are collected), contract classification, and documents, and verify invoices and credit notes against contract files.
  • Handle customer complaints in a professional manner to resolve them to the satisfaction of the client and Sunbelt Rentals.
  • Support sales and marketing efforts by making prospecting calls, forwarding sales leads and incoming inquiry requests to the sales group, and ensuring liaison with marketing regarding product promotions and frequent rental programs.
  • Record call details in the phone log and maintain lost rental records.
  • Examine daily management reports and provide regular feedback to the profit center manager regarding vehicle fleet and merchandise stock, as well as pricing.
  • Participate in after-hours intervention and emergency efforts, including local and regional interventions, as well as participation in national event interventions.
  • Adhere to standard operating procedures.
  • Ensure all activities and transactions with clients are conducted in accordance with Sunbelt's security policies.
  • Perform other tasks assigned by the manager.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Valid driver's license required
  • 0-2 years of experience in equipment rental industry
  • Strong phone skills
  • Customer service skills
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Ability to read legibly instructions and numbers in English
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred in some locations
  • Transportation Ministry qualification process success
