About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Veterinary Care Specialist to join our team at Port Elgin Veterinary Clinic. As a key member of our veterinary team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to our patients and their owners.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and Treat Medical Conditions: Conduct thorough physical examinations and laboratory tests to diagnose diseases or abnormal conditions in individual animals, herds, and flocks.
  • Provide Preventative Care: Vaccinate animals to prevent and treat diseases, and advise clients on feeding, housing, behavior, breeding, hygiene, and general care of animals.
  • Perform Surgical and Medical Procedures: Treat sick or injured animals by prescribing medication, setting bones, dressing wounds, or performing surgery.
  • Enforce Regulations and Standards: Ensure compliance with government regulations in disease control and food production, including animal or animal-based food inspection.
  • Provide Routine and Emergency Care: Perform routine, emergency, and post-mortem examinations, and provide a range of veterinary services including obstetrics, dentistry, and euthanasia.
Requirements
  • Education and Certification: Degree in medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, or optometry, and Canadian Veterinary Medical Association Certification.
  • Licensure and Registration: Licensure by provincial or territorial authorities.
  • Skills and Abilities: Manual dexterity, attention to detail, hand-eye coordination, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and ability to distinguish between colors.
  • Personal Qualities: Accurate, dependable, efficient interpersonal skills, excellent oral and written communication, flexibility, initiative, judgment, reliability, team player, values and ethics, and resourcefulness.
