Position Overview
The Department of Radiology, Radiation Oncology, and Medical Physics is seeking exceptional candidates for a hybrid research role as a Scientist specializing in Medical Artificial Intelligence (MAI) and Virtual Reality (VR).

In the AI aspect of this role, the successful candidate will be tasked with developing and implementing artificial intelligence models aimed at enhancing diagnostic precision, optimizing workflows, and fostering innovation in medical imaging. Collaboration with radiologists, data scientists, and engineers will be essential to convert complex data into actionable insights that improve patient care.

Key Responsibilities Include:

•AI Model Development: Design, develop, and validate AI models and algorithms tailored for medical imaging applications, including image segmentation, classification, and anomaly detection.

•Data Analysis: Analyze and preprocess extensive datasets of medical images to train and test AI models, ensuring high accuracy and generalizability.

•Collaboration: Engage collaboratively with radiologists, medical professionals, and cross-functional teams to comprehend clinical needs and translate them into AI-driven solutions.

•Research & Innovation: Remain informed about the latest advancements in AI and radiology, applying novel techniques to enhance existing systems and workflows.

•Deployment & Integration: Implement and integrate AI models into current radiology systems and workflows, ensuring smooth operation and compliance with regulatory standards.

•Validation & Testing: Conduct thorough validation and testing of AI models to ensure reliability, robustness, and clinical relevance.

The Radiology-Surgery Virtual Reality (Rad-Sur-VR) research group focuses on advanced visualization of patient-specific anatomy utilizing 3D image segmentation software and virtual reality technology.

For the VR component of this role, the successful candidate will collaborate with investigators and other research team members to manage and coordinate the Rad-Sur-VR program and associated studies.

Additional Responsibilities May Include:

•Maintenance of equipment and software

•Medical image segmentation and 3D model creation

•Dissemination of models to patients and their support networks.

•Scheduling and conducting regular update meetings with radiologists and surgeons.

Basic Requirements (Education/Experience):
Candidates should ideally possess a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related fields with a health science background; postdoctoral experience is considered a strong asset.

Skills Required:

•Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or MATLAB.

•Expertise in machine learning frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).

•Strong understanding of image processing techniques and computer vision.

•Experience with large-scale data processing and analysis.

•Excellent problem-solving abilities and capacity to work independently as well as in a team setting.

•Experience in developing 3D geographical environments.

•Strong communication skills (both oral and written).

•Advanced organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.

•Evidence of training certification in Tri-Council Policy Statement -2 (TCPS-2) and the International Conference on Harmonization – Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH-GCP).

•Knowledge, skills, and experience in preparing research ethics applications for institutional review boards.

•Ability to work on-site and travel between multiple campuses.

The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in working within a multidisciplinary, patient-centered environment to tackle significant healthcare challenges.

Preferred Qualifications:

•Three (3) to five (5) years of clinical research experience

•Familiarity with various virtual and augmented reality technologies

•Experience with patient recruitment and conducting in-person patient research visits.

•Experience in medical imaging research or a related field.

•Evidence of training in Food and Drug Regulations, Division 5, and/or Device Regulations, as applicable

•Understanding of the principles and procedures of clinical research.

•Ability to recruit, evaluate, and instruct clinical research participants.

•Capability to design and implement systems necessary for the collection, maintenance, and analysis of data.

•Willingness to acquire new skills as required by the position.

•Established skills and ability to work in a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary environment.

•Experience in developing 3D geographical environments.

•Advanced organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.
