Heavy Duty Vehicle Mechanic

Overview of the Position

The Heavy Duty Vehicle Mechanic will report directly to the Fleet, Facilities & Purchasing Manager and will be tasked with the upkeep of both mobile and stationary machinery at Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. This includes snow cats, winch cats, snowmobiles, ATVs, heavy machinery, and fleet vehicles. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of generators, hydrostatic and hydraulic systems, and will be skilled in diagnosing electrical issues in vehicles, as well as adjusting, replacing, or repairing faulty components.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine preventative maintenance to ensure optimal performance, safety, and durability of equipment.
  • Disassemble components to inspect for excessive wear or damage.
  • Repair, replace, clean, and lubricate parts as needed.
  • Maintain and calibrate vehicle electrical systems.
  • Monitor hydraulic systems for leaks, ruptured hoses, and worn gaskets, calibrating or replacing components as necessary.
  • Foster a transparent and trustworthy communication relationship with staff and the Maintenance Manager.
  • Initiate, oversee, and assign daily work tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Keep detailed records of completed work and report on all maintenance-related activities within the CMMS.
  • Execute all maintenance and repair tasks in a cost-effective and responsible manner.
  • Assist the Maintenance Manager in preparing the annual budget for vehicle maintenance.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and housekeeping practices.
  • Comply with all safety regulations related to assigned tasks, maintaining a clean and safe working environment while actively participating in health and safety programs.
  • Follow all environmental policies and programs as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Must hold a Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic's certification.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in a heavy-duty mechanics role, preferably within the ski industry.
  • Candidates with journeyman welding and/or automotive mechanic qualifications will be considered.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Familiarity with heavy industrial equipment such as excavators, loaders, and skid steers.
  • Previous experience with snow cats and snowmobiles is a significant asset.
  • Working knowledge of hydraulic systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Experience in repairing undercarriage and track assemblies.
  • Experience in repairing components like frames and implements.
  • Welding certification is an asset.
