We are currently seeking a Lead CNC Manufacturing Engineer for our client, a prominent Tier 1 automotive supplier specializing in components and assemblies for the automotive and industrial sectors. This is a full-time, permanent role.

Position Overview:

As a Lead CNC Manufacturing Engineer, you will play a crucial role in refining production methodologies, ensuring cost-effectiveness, and enhancing manufacturability. Your extensive knowledge in CNC machining, coupled with strong leadership and collaborative skills, will be essential for the success of our manufacturing initiatives. You will spearhead efforts in process enhancement, technology integration, cost assessment for new projects, and team growth. By incorporating advanced machining technologies and promoting a culture of continuous improvement, you will help maintain our competitive edge.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Process Enhancement / Continuous Improvement
    1. Examine and assess existing machining workflows to pinpoint opportunities for efficiency gains.
    2. Design and implement process enhancements to minimize cycle times, boost throughput, and guarantee high-quality results.
    3. Develop and execute experimental test plans utilizing statistically designed methodologies.
  2. Technology and Automation Integration
    1. Lead the assessment, testing, selection, and deployment of advanced machining technologies, including CNC automation and related equipment.
    2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth incorporation of new technologies and automation into manufacturing processes.
    3. Engage in the capital investment process to ensure high returns on implemented initiatives.
    4. Conduct evaluations to determine if projects have achieved their intended objectives.
  3. New Project Development
    1. Create and manage precise cost models and estimates for machining operations.
    2. Provide manufacturing solutions for new project developments.
    3. Work with finance and sales teams to establish competitive and realistic pricing strategies.
  4. Team Development & Collaboration
    1. Assist and mentor functional teams on new processes and technologies.
    2. Collaborate with inter-departmental teams on problem-solving and joint projects.
    3. Guide junior engineers and support their professional growth.
    4. Encourage a culture of learning and continuous improvement within the machining team.
Reporting Structure:

This role reports directly to the Director of Global Advanced Manufacturing Engineering.

Performance Indicators:
  1. Cost Efficiency: Reduction in machining cycle times.
  2. Decrease in scrap rates through enhanced process efficiency and material utilization.
  3. Technology Adoption: Number of advanced machining technologies successfully integrated.
  4. Quality Metrics: Improvement in product quality and reduction in defect rates.
  5. Project Delivery: Timely completion of projects related to machining process enhancement.
  6. New Project Development: Number of new strategic projects initiated.
  7. Successful execution of new projects within budget and timeline constraints.
Essential Competencies:
  1. Ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively.
  2. Capability to provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
  3. Adaptability to evolving manufacturing technologies.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues from various disciplines (e.g., design, quality, production, and program management).

Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  2. Strong expertise in CNC machining processes, tooling, and programming.
  3. Familiarity with other manufacturing processes such as stamping, forging, and assembly.
  4. Problem-solving skills using statistical methods (e.g., DOE, SPC) and experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
  5. Proficient documentation skills in technical reports and presentations.
