Job Title: Language Preservation Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Language Preservation Specialist to join our team at Nak'azdli Whut'en. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in preserving and promoting the Dakelh Language and understanding the history of Nak'azdli Whut'en.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with fluent speakers to ensure the best usage of language and wording for translation purposes.
  • Improve the understanding of Nak'azdli Whut'en teachings, protocols, and laws as guiding principles for work planning and processes.
  • Enhance, support, and implement language revitalization and cultural practices.
  • Manage financial budgets and support events, including fundraising, sponsorships, and donations.
  • Liaise and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, including funders, sponsors, Language Working groups, venues, vendors, and facilitators.
  • Communicate effectively with the Director of Education, Chief Operating Officer, Chief and Council, Community, and surrounding municipalities as required.
  • Review materials, reports, contracts, schedules, and deliverables to ensure budget, timeline, and reporting obligations.
  • Maintain confidentiality on all matters relating to Nak'azdli Whut'en affairs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and mutually agreed upon.
Required Knowledge, Abilities & Skills:
  • Knowledge of the Dakelh Language is an asset.
  • Understanding of Nak'azdli Whut'en history.
  • Strong coordination and organizational skills.
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent project and time management skills.
  • Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office, ZOOM, and MS Teams.
  • Sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and quality of work.
Education, Training & Experience:
  • Experience in community engagement and facilitation.
  • 2 years of related work experience in community development, engagement, and/or facilitation.
  • Understanding and knowledge of Nak'azdli Whut'en stakeholder and community concerns, history, family, values, and way of life is an asset.
