Senior Underwriting Consultant

At Equitable Life of Canada, we're seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriting Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our underwriting team, you'll be responsible for assessing life and critical illness products, providing mentorship and training to junior underwriters, and contributing to specialized projects in traditional and data-based underwriting.
Key Responsibilities:- Apply strong underwriting expertise to assess medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors for affluent and high net worth Canadians.
- Provide mentorship and training to junior underwriters, ensuring they have the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in their roles.
- Contribute to specialized projects in traditional and data-based underwriting, leveraging your expertise to drive business growth and improve underwriting processes.
- Assess claims, rescissions, and reinstatements, ensuring that all decisions are made in accordance with company policies and procedures.
- Prepare and present development opportunities for distribution partners, colleagues, and internal and external business partners.
- Comply with legislative requirements, consumer regulation, and reinsurance treaties, ensuring that all underwriting activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
- Superior technical knowledge in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive mindset.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities.
- Strong reinsurance relationships and excellent negotiation skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Fluency in using data as an underwriting tool, or the willingness to learn.
- College or university degree, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of demonstrated professional experience as a life and critical illness underwriter, with experience in the affluent and high net worth market.
- FLMI/FALU/CPu designation(s), or currently working towards them.
- Commitment to continuous learning and participation in education enhancement to remain current with medical knowledge and industry underwriting trends.
