Project & Control Engineer (Senior Scheduler) Job Overview

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is seeking a dynamic and strategic professional to join our team in the role of Project & Control Engineer (Senior Scheduler) based out of Oshawa. This role is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement of up to two days per week working from home.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand schedules, cost, and required performance for assigned projects.
  • Develop and maintain updated and accurate project schedules, perform weekly schedule updates, critical path, and cost analysis.
  • Perform cost management for projects in accordance with OPG's project management governance, set up applicable source systems, and ensure alignment with project control systems.
  • Facilitate project metrics reporting and variance analysis, identify actual and potential deviations from approved budgets or schedules, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Create and issue timely project status reports, develop and maintain program-level schedules, and process changes through approved change control processes.
  • Prepare and obtain approval of applicable change control documentation, facilitate and support project financial close-out process, and assist with continuous improvement of PMO processes and procedures.
  • Maintain document project files, which provide an auditable trail throughout the project lifecycle, including project approvals, change control, and close-out.
Requirements
  • 4-year university degree in Engineering or a technical field.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certificate and/or Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering (AACE) certification are considered assets.
  • P. Eng considered an asset.
  • A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years of experience in project planning, scheduling, risk management, and control service needs of the division.
  • Extensive scheduling experience using P6, advanced MS Office skills, with emphasis on reporting in Excel, Power BI an asset, experience managing vendor relationships, and clear understanding of project controls principles, theories, and concepts.
  • Experience working on technical projects, must have experience in cost control, understanding of earned value, including CPI (cost performance indicator) and SPI (Scheduled Performance Indicator), experience working in multi-disciplinary and multi-phase long-term projects/programs, and knowledge and solid understanding of the interrelationships and role of organizational units, interrelationships between work groups, external contractors, and consultants involved.
  • The ability to collaborate and communicate well, both verbally and written, is essential, ability to present information clearly and effectively, comfortable working with/learning the application of various computer systems and software, and ability to work effectively and efficiently in a flexible hybrid office environment.
