Estimator Job Description

Bre-Ex Construction Inc. is seeking a skilled Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will provide knowledge and experience in sourcing, bidding, and closing heavy civil and related projects of various sizes in Southern Ontario.

Our company has grown to specialize in heavy civil construction, site grading, general contracting, utility/electrical services, land development, and aggregates. We are looking for a candidate with a strong desire, work ethic, and experience to estimate and provide analysis of high-profile infrastructure renewal, water & sewer, road reconstruction, environmental reclamation, and land development projects.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct cost estimation of labour, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and transportation/logistics for heavy civil, infrastructure, and electrical construction projects, considering project complexity, location, size, and duration.
  • Lead the estimating team to ensure estimates are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Research historic tenders and bid data, providing summaries to the Sr. Leadership team.
  • Support the Project Management team in preparation of contract change orders and other miscellaneous tasks.
  • Upon successful award, support the Project Management team with selection of sub-trades, ensuring that project safety, quality, and profitability targets are maximized.
  • Research and source price trend information for materials and equipment from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Review and analyze subcontractor/supplier bids and negotiate pricing to obtain competitive and cost-effective solutions for projects.
  • Identify potential cost uncertainties and provide risk analysis for the Sr. Leadership team.
  • Maintain and upkeep of construction and cost database, verifying that correct pricing methodology has been utilized.
  • Participate and lead project development initiatives, analyzing market trends and new project potential.
  • Assist the development of other team members on contract language and interpretation via training and mentoring throughout the construction process.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of prior Estimating experience in heavy civil construction.
  • Professional level command of English to create detailed proposals, progress reports, and communicate with interested parties internal/external.
  • Advanced command of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required.
