Team Overview:
At Scotiabank, research plays a pivotal role in our Global Equity platform. We excel in the Canadian market while also providing targeted international research that includes the United States and Latin America. Our highly regarded teams produce value-added equity insights and themed publications, continually seeking innovative ways to introduce new products and deliver valuable research ideas to our clients.
Role Purpose:
As an Equity Research Associate, you will thrive in a dynamic and challenging work environment. Working alongside an experienced Research Analyst, you will develop financial forecasts and contribute to research publications that empower our clients to make informed investment choices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough financial statement analysis and maintain financial models.
- Perform detailed industry analysis and research utilizing various financial sources.
- Gather, consolidate, and interpret data related to companies and industries.
- Assist in drafting research publications, including market commentary, company reports, and thematic research documents.
- Monitor market news and assess data to identify short- and long-term trends.
- Prepare presentations for meetings with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage inquiries from institutional investors effectively.
- Establish and maintain relationships with investor relations and management of covered companies.
- Collaborate with sales, trading, and other departments within regulatory frameworks.
- A university degree in business, economics, engineering, geology, or geophysics is preferred.
- Possession of a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, MBA, or a Master’s in Finance, or enrollment in/completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program is advantageous.
- Experience in financial, engineering, analytical, corporate development, or M&A roles within the oil & gas sector is beneficial.
- Strong skills in accounting, financial modeling, graphing, and analysis.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint.
- Familiarity with mapping software such as GeoScout, as well as Bloomberg and FactSet, is a plus.
- Knowledge of natural gas markets is an asset.
- Experience with programming languages such as VBA or Python is beneficial.
- Experience in financial statement analysis and company valuation.
- Understanding of Capital Markets is essential.
- Sound business judgment and decision-making capabilities.
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet stringent deadlines.
- Capacity to manage multiple projects simultaneously while upholding high-quality standards.
This position is currently an on-site role, requiring at least four days a week in the office, subject to business needs.
