Associate - Equity Researcher

As an Equity Research Associate, you will work closely with a seasoned Research Analyst to develop financial forecasts and publish research publications that allow our clients to make informed investment decisions.
With a limited hierarchy and a team approach, you will have ample opportunity to develop relationships with both institutional and corporate clients, in-depth sector expertise, exceptional financial modeling and valuation skills, and an understanding of the capital markets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing comprehensive financial statement analysis and creating and maintaining financial models
- Conducting in-depth industry analysis and research using industry and financial sources
- Collecting, consolidating, and interpreting company and industry data
- Assisting in writing research publications, including morning commentary, company and industry reports, and theme-based research reports
- Following overall market news and evaluating market data to assess short and long-term trends
- Preparing PowerPoint presentations for meetings with internal and external clients
- Communicating and handling enquiries from institutional investors
- Liaising with sales, trading, and other areas of the firm within regulatory guidelines
Requirements include:
- A university degree in business, economics, engineering, geology, or geophysics
- A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation, MBA, Masters of Finance degree, or enrolment in/completion of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) program would be an asset
- Work experience in a financial, engineering, analytical, corporate development, or M&A capacity in the oil & gas sector would be an asset
- Strong accounting, financial modeling, graphing, and analytical skills
- Excellent command of Microsoft Suite, with an emphasis on Excel & PowerPoint
- Experience using mapping software such as GeoScout, as well as Bloomberg and FactSet, would be an asset
- Knowledge of natural gas markets would be an asset
- Familiarity with VBA, Python, or other programming languages would be an asset
- Experience in analyzing financial statements and valuing companies
- Capital Markets knowledge/experience
- Good business judgment and decision-making skills
- Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a high standard of work
This position is currently an on-site role, with the expectation that you will work at least 4 days a week in the office. Please note that this is subject to change based on the needs of the business.
