Qualifications and Experience

We are seeking a highly skilled Child and Youth Counsellor to join our Mental Health Crisis Team. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Child/Youth Care or a related field, and a minimum of three years of experience in assessing and treating children and youth with psychiatric/mental health concerns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk to self and others, and mental status.
  • Apply crisis intervention and stabilization principles to ensure the safety and well-being of clients.
  • Work effectively and efficiently under pressure, even in high-acuity situations.
  • Establish and maintain therapeutic relationships with clients and their families.
  • Communicate effectively with a variety of stakeholders, including healthcare professionals, community agencies, and clients.
  • Contribute to a safe and respectful work environment, utilizing de-escalation techniques and other strategies as needed.
Requirements
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License.
  • Working knowledge of DSM IV diagnoses and related treatments, the Mental Health Act, the Hospital Act, and the Child, Family and Community Service Act.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
