The Canada Growth Fund Investment Management team is seeking an Investment Manager to join our Montreal office.
About the TeamThe Canada Growth Fund Investment Management (CGFIM) Team has been established to oversee the $15 billion Canada Growth Fund. Our mandate is to stimulate significant private sector investment in Canadian low-carbon projects, technologies, and supply chains through innovative funding structures that address the risks associated with the low-carbon economy. We will focus on investing in Canadian initiatives across various sectors, including carbon capture, hydrogen, renewable natural gas, clean technology, and critical minerals.
Team Size: The team currently comprises approximately 16 professionals and is expected to expand to fulfill the CGF's objectives.
Your RoleAs an Investment Manager, you will:
- Actively engage in the energy transition in Canada by deploying and managing CGF's capital, shaping strategy, and leading investments in emerging decarbonization sectors and technologies.
- Contribute to the analysis of relevant sectors and industry developments to identify potential investment opportunities.
- Conduct preliminary assessments of investment opportunities in line with the CGF mandate and its impact criteria, demonstrating sound investment judgment.
- Participate in the execution and due diligence of investments in Canadian projects aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in cleantech company investments.
- Oversee various diligence workstreams and be accountable for valuation and analytical work, including financial and operational model reviews.
- Prepare investment recommendation documents for internal approval.
- Lead discussions and manage investment documentation, developing negotiation skills.
- Take charge of project management aspects of deal execution, including budget planning and timeline management.
- Collaborate with senior team members and provide guidance to junior colleagues.
- Support internal projects aimed at enhancing team performance and operational efficiency.
- Monitor investments and assist in value creation and monitoring plans.
- Build a network of contacts within the investment and energy transition sectors to identify and evaluate investment opportunities.
- Establish relationships with key internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
- A well-rounded investment background with a minimum of seven years of relevant experience in conventional energy, renewable energy, clean-tech investing, or investment banking.
- Experience in impact investing is a plus but not mandatory.
- Strong execution skills across business development and investment analysis, with extensive due diligence experience.
- Intellectual curiosity, self-motivation, and robust analytical capabilities.
- A collegial and collaborative approach, comfortable with shared decision-making.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Relevant educational qualifications.
- Proficiency in English and French is preferred, with regular interactions in both languages.
