About This Role

Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health are seeking a full-time family physician to become a vital part of a collaborative clinic that has been serving the community since 2009. The practice team includes five full-time physicians, a nurse practitioner, a family practice nurse, an addiction and mental health counselor, a clinic manager, and administrative support staff. Each provider is dedicated to offering same-day appointments for all patients.

The clinic operates in close proximity to a community hospital, providing opportunities for collaboration with medical students and residents from Dalhousie University. Family physicians in this area enjoy strong relationships with specialists and allied health professionals, enhancing the quality of care available to patients.

The hospital offers a range of services, including inpatient, outpatient, emergency, long-term care, and community-based services. Physicians may manage up to six inpatients at any given time across various care units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive primary health care services to patients across all age groups.
  • Maintain accountability for workload and practice standards.
  • Ensure continuity of care in collaboration with healthcare providers.
  • Coordinate community-based care alongside secondary and tertiary healthcare services.
  • Build practice capacity within the initial years of service.
  • Adhere to the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of the Nova Scotia Health Authority.
  • Facilitate same-day or next-day access for patients.
  • Collaborate with team members to address community health needs effectively.
  • Provide after-hours access and emergency coverage as necessary.
  • Engage in quality improvement and evaluation initiatives.
  • Utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) system to document patient information.
Work Schedule
  • Full-time position
  • On-call responsibilities (1:7) for inpatients, with additional call stipend provided.
Qualifications
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
  • Certification eligibility with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
  • Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
