About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as a Global Expansion Manager at Invest Ottawa/Bayview Yards. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and implementation of comprehensive prospection and promotion strategies in target international markets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) strategy and comprehensive plan for global market expansion
  • Monitor and report on budget for FDI-related activities, including travel, contracting, and other expenses, to increase FDI leads and wins
  • Build and maintain a sales pipeline for lead generation and potential FDI wins
  • Project manage lead generation consulting contracts and/or projects related to your market/sector expertise
  • Establish and maintain business relationships and manage ongoing customer care
  • Ensure intelligence-gathering and targeting activities for assigned FDI projects are properly carried out
  • Support incoming FDI company visits and delegations
  • Provide mentorship and task management for FDI Team assistant(s) or co-op student
  • Collaborate with the director to review quarterly business reports on sales pipeline
  • Assist with strategic direction on international market collateral pieces
  • Collaborate with the director or senior manager on special projects/initiatives to drive sector-specific and other development strategies
  • Develop a network of private, public, and government stakeholders to assist with all aspects of the FDI strategy
  • Develop key relationships within all levels of government for investment attraction, including Trade Commissioner Services (TCS), Ontario Government (MEDJCT), embassies, trade associations, industry, academia, etc.
  • Liaise with local and international embassy contacts from target countries to develop opportunities for collaboration on incoming delegations, any planned FDI or trade missions, and follow-up after missions
  • Build key partnerships for foreign direct investment both locally and internationally
  • Facilitate the FDI aftercare and broader customer care program and provide support and care to international clients that are not covered by a Business Development Sector lead
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Marketing, Commerce, or Business Administration, International Relations, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience in Business Development, Economic Development, or International Trade (working experiences in other economic development agencies, international trade and investment government agencies are desired)
  • Decision-making capability to determine how to select appropriate projects for Invest Ottawa
  • Proven ability to represent the City of Ottawa in a broad range of environments, to a wide group of stakeholders and clients
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the international business communities as well as an understanding of the small, medium, and large business markets in the Ottawa region
  • Ability to analyze large amounts of data/information and make conclusions/recommendations
  • Exceptional business relationship management skills with demonstrated commitment to customer service
  • Proven Project Management experience with the ability to multi-task several projects at once
  • Demonstrated ability as a team player

  • Experience working effectively in a fast-paced environment and during stressful periods
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally frequently (50%-60%)
  • High independent contact with a wide variety of organizations, mainly internationally, to include public, private, and not-for-profits, reflecting on IO, the City of Ottawa, and the NCR
  • Excellent written and verbal presentation skills are a key requirement
  • Fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities and tight deadlines

  • Requirement for long and/or irregular hours, including attendance at external functions representing IO
