Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse to work in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory.

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is looking for a skilled Registered Nurse to become a vital part of the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory team. This role is essential in providing exceptional care to patients in a critical environment.

Responsibilities of the Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Catheter Laboratory include:

Delivering nursing care to critically ill patients who are at high risk and may require life-support systems, as well as those recovering from anesthesia, both independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Enhancing the quality of life from the perspective of patients and their families. Collaborating and consulting with other healthcare professionals. Demonstrating expertise and leadership in nursing practices. Continuously advancing personal clinical skills and knowledge. Participating in designated hospital committees and approved research initiatives as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Education & Experience

Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). Completion of a recognized critical care nursing program or a minimum of two (2) years of recent, relevant critical care experience.

Knowledge & Skills

Comprehensive understanding of nursing theory and practice within a patient-centered care model. Familiarity with BCCNM standards for nursing practice. In-depth knowledge of the indications, actions, reactions, routes, dosages, and side effects of anesthetic and other medications used in critical care settings. Thorough understanding of common nursing challenges encountered in critical care. Knowledge of the physiological and behavioral aspects of complex critical illnesses. Awareness of other healthcare disciplines and their roles in patient care. Proven ability to assess and manage critical and life-threatening situations in nursing practice. Ability to respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies. Skills in organizing and prioritizing workload, as well as planning and implementing care strategies. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Proficient communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in writing. Capability to educate patients and their families. Proven leadership skills and ability to provide direction to others. Physical capability to perform the duties required of the position. Proficiency in CPR techniques. Skills in using critical care monitoring and support equipment. Basic computer skills to operate a computerized patient care information system.
