Sheridan College is actively seeking a qualified individual for the position of Chief Technology Officer. This role is pivotal in enhancing Sheridan's standing as a premier research and innovation hub dedicated to the integration of artificial intelligence across various industries.
The Chief Technology Officer will report directly to the Dean of Innovation, providing both strategic and operational oversight for the direction of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Innovation (CAAI) and its array of support services for industry and community stakeholders.
This position plays a crucial role in delivering enriching training experiences for students, creating research opportunities for faculty and staff, and generating significant economic and social advantages for businesses and community partners, as well as for Ontario and Canada.
The responsibilities include managing research and operational personnel, overseeing CAAI's facilities, and utilizing advanced technologies. The Chief Technology Officer will collaborate with other directors across Sheridan's various Research and Entrepreneurship Centres, as well as academic leaders and faculty, to cultivate interdisciplinary and cross-sector partnerships that effectively address the needs of our innovation collaborators.
Key responsibilities encompass:
- Providing strategic leadership for CAAI, leveraging a comprehensive understanding of global innovation trends in artificial intelligence and its applications across diverse sectors.
- Guiding the Centre's operations, ensuring financial sustainability through revenue generation from grants and contracts for applied research, training, and other innovation initiatives.
- Fostering partnerships for applied research, training, and innovation support with industry, community partners, funding bodies, and academic institutions.
- Leading and directing the CAAI team, enhancing team performance and professional growth through effective recruitment, project planning, mentorship, and performance management.
- Engaging actively with other research and entrepreneurship centres, faculties, and Sheridan's Generator Support Office to expand Sheridan's innovation ecosystem and better serve our partners and communities.
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Approximately 7 years of relevant experience in a similar role (equivalent experience will be considered).
- Extensive knowledge of artificial intelligence and a broad understanding of current and emerging trends in its application across multiple sectors.
- Proven ability to develop and execute research projects within a research and development context.
- Experience in grant writing and administration.
- A commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion in organizational development and community engagement.
- Experience in financial budgeting, management, and reporting.
