Nova Scotia Health Authority is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Family Physician to join our team at the North Preston Community Health and Wellness Centre.
This part-time opportunity (0.2 FTE, approximately 1 day per week) offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in a vibrant sub-rural community with a rich cultural heritage. You will be joining a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals committed to providing comprehensive and patient-centered care.
About the Opportunity:
- Serve a panel of approximately patients who have been well cared for by the retiring physician.
- Collaborate with a dedicated team including a Nurse Practitioner, Family Practice Nurses, Pediatrician, Social Worker, and Dietician.
- Benefit from full coverage within the practice or practice group for planned or unplanned absences.
- Provide limited or some urgent/same-day access to patients with generally 2-3 week wait times.
- Utilize Accuro EMR and benefit from comprehensive IT support, including patient booking, email communication, and more.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough patient examinations and gather detailed medical histories.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests and laboratory procedures.
- Advise patients on healthcare, health promotion, and disease prevention strategies.
- Consult with and refer to other medical practitioners as needed.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring their needs are met.
- Prescribe medications and treatments, administer inoculations and vaccinations.
- Report births, deaths, contagious diseases, and other health-related events as required by Nova Scotia Public Health.
Qualifications:
- Eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
- Eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
- Maintain membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA).
Compensation: Payment is through the Longitudinal Family Medicine model (LFM), and overhead is competitive and negotiable.
