Family Medicine Physician Opportunity in North Preston

The North Preston Community Health and Wellness Centre is in search of a 0.2 FTE (approximately 1 day per week) physician to become part of its dedicated healthcare team. The patient panel consists of around 300 individuals who have received excellent care from the departing physician. This collaborative environment includes a Nurse Practitioner, a Family Practice Nurse, two additional Physicians, a Pediatrician, administrative staff, a Social Worker, and a Dietician. Comprehensive coverage is assured for both planned and unplanned absences within the practice or practice group. The facility provides limited urgent or same-day access, with typical wait times of 2-3 weeks. After-hours care is not part of this practice's offerings. The electronic medical record system utilized is Accuro, supported by full IT services for patient bookings and communications.
The community served is primarily composed of individuals of African Nova Scotian descent and is accessible via public transportation. Although resources such as grocery stores and employment opportunities are limited, the community has a significant senior population.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe role encompasses a variety of duties, including but not limited to:
- Conducting patient examinations and obtaining medical histories
- Ordering diagnostic tests and laboratory assessments
- Providing health care advice, promoting health, and preventing diseases
- Consulting and referring patients to other medical professionals
- Advocating for patients' needs
- Prescribing and administering medications, treatments, and vaccinations
- Reporting births, deaths, and communicable diseases in accordance with Nova Scotia Public Health regulations
This is a part-time position requiring 1 day of work per week.
Qualifications RequiredApplicants must meet the following criteria:
- Eligibility for Licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS)
- Eligibility for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC)
- Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA)
