About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Research & Development Engineer to contribute significantly to the advancement of Baylis Medical Technologies Inc.'s innovative product lineup. This role is essential as our team continues to expand rapidly.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engage in all phases of product development, from initial concept through to market launch.
  • Utilize advanced technologies to devise optimal design solutions for our products.
  • Oversee the creation of concepts and prototypes, identifying the most viable options for progression to Design Freeze.
  • Lead the formulation of plans and testing protocols for design verification and validation.
  • Champion the development of intellectual property within the organization.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineering personnel as required.
  • Facilitate Design for Manufacturing (DFM) initiatives.
  • Support and manage R&D sustaining projects as they emerge on production lines.
  • Monitor deliverables from both internal and external teams to ensure compliance with product design changes.
  • Comply with all aspects of the Quality Management System.

Essential Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree in Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 6 years of experience in an engineering capacity.
  • Familiarity with design standards as outlined in 21 CFR 820 and ISO 13485.
  • Understanding of risk management principles according to ISO 14971.
  • Experience in drafting and maintaining Design History Files (DHF) and Device Master Records (DMR).
  • Proficiency in rapid design iteration and making informed design recommendations.
  • Ability to independently formulate and adjust work plans in response to evolving project objectives.
  • Strong skills in hypothesis-driven experimental design and statistical analysis.
  • Proven track record in innovative engineering design.
  • Self-motivated with the capacity to work autonomously and collaboratively within a diverse team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, along with demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • A keen interest in biomedical technology.
  • A dynamic and adaptable work style with a focus on achieving results.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas: hydrophilic coating, injection molding part design, or the development of steerable catheters/sheaths.

Preferred Experience

  • Background in the development of medical devices, particularly catheters, guidewires, and sheaths, with an emphasis on R&D.
