Position Overview:

We are seeking a dynamic and driven individual who is open-minded, innovative, and a collaborative team player to join our reinsurance division. This role will be based in Toronto and will require travel to engage with clients across Canada and occasionally internationally. Reporting directly to the Chief Underwriting Officer, the Senior Treaty Underwriter will oversee all facets of property and casualty treaty underwriting for Canadian insurers and will take charge of a designated portfolio of business. The ideal candidate should be bilingual and possess a background in fields such as underwriting, finance, economics, actuarial science, or risk management.

Key Responsibilities:
Underwriting Duties
  1. Assess renewal and new business treaty reinsurance programs in accordance with company guidelines.
  2. Structure and negotiate suitable terms and conditions.
  3. Review and negotiate contract language.
  4. Analyze and negotiate pricing in collaboration with actuaries.
  5. Refer issues as necessary following company protocols.
  6. Conduct underwriting audits at existing and prospective clients.
Client Relationship Management
  1. Manage the overall relationship with clients on behalf of the company.
  2. Promote the company to insurance firms and reinsurance brokers to secure appropriate business opportunities.
  3. Organize and oversee client engagement events.
Reporting and Portfolio Management
  1. Communicate with Underwriting Management and senior management regarding activities, client interactions, and portfolio performance.
  2. Document all relevant information for assigned business in line with company guidelines.
  3. Ensure compliance and maintain records of all necessary referrals as per company standards.
Qualifications:
  1. A minimum of 10 years of experience in the (re)insurance sector, including primary underwriting and/or reinsurance brokerage.
  2. Educational background or experience in underwriting, finance, actuarial science, economics, or risk management.
  3. Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  4. Ability to work collaboratively and deliver results in a cross-functional team setting.
  5. Strong analytical skills.
  6. Excellent negotiation and communication abilities.
  7. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  8. Bilingual proficiency in French is preferred.
