Your Role:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) is accountable for the assessment, planning, execution, and evaluation of comprehensive patient and family-centered care within a specialized surgical unit, adhering to the policies and procedures of Alberta Health Services (AHS). This unit is dedicated to providing care for patients undergoing Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery and general surgical procedures, receiving patients from various sources including the operating room and emergency services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Engage in collaborative decision-making within a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Participate in quality enhancement initiatives to uphold high standards of patient care within the surgical program.
- Assume the role of charge nurse as necessary, demonstrating leadership and accountability.
Position Overview:
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will deliver a broad spectrum of nursing services to patients, families, and communities, ensuring their safety and well-being. Your responsibilities will include:
- Utilizing nursing processes through critical thinking, problem-solving, and informed decision-making.
- Providing education, counseling, and advocacy for patients and their families.
- Leading efforts to support an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion, and maintenance.
You will ensure the delivery of safe, quality, patient-centered care while embodying the shared vision and values of AHS.
Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program is essential. Candidates must be actively registered or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). A current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification is also required. If you have not practiced as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within the last five years, completion of specific refresher courses is mandatory.
