Job Summary

The Maple Leaf Foods team is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Animal Care Technician to join our production team. As an Animal Care Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the health and well-being of our animals, while also contributing to the success of our production operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with all areas of production, including animal care, feeding, and maintenance of the production environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including door charts and inventory trackers.
  • Order feed and medication as needed.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to the development of production goals and objectives.
  • Adhere to health and safety policies and procedures, and follow MLAF SOPs regarding the humane treatment of animals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of experience in animal care or a related field preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift 25kg.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to get to and from work located in a rural area.
  • Weekend, holiday hours, and alarm attending required on a rotational basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in hog production.
  • Knowledge of animal health and welfare.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities and complex tasks simultaneously.
