This role is integral to the production team, contributing to the achievement of operational objectives in a safe and efficient manner while adhering to all organizational policies. The Automotive Dismantling Technician will handle vehicles responsibly to generate both core and scrap materials, facilitate customer access to parts, and ensure compliance with environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to company policies and procedures, setting a positive example for team members.
  • Remove hazardous materials: Extract Freon, power steering fluid, brake fluid, batteries, and other specified items as per established protocols.
  • Drain fluids: Safely eliminate gasoline, coolant, waste oil, and other specified substances according to procedures.
  • Vehicle Setup: Position vehicles on wheel stands for customer access to sellable parts. Clear vehicles and tidy the area in preparation for subsequent operations.
  • Field Dismantling: Detach motor and transmission mounts. Remove remaining tires and designated core components as per guidelines.
  • Ground Dismantling: Extract heater cores, copper wiring, and other specified items. Maintain the work area to minimize equipment downtime, harvest cores, and ensure environmental compliance.
  • Table Dismantling: Disassemble engines and transmissions. Remove selected small cores, harvest wiring, sort materials, and perform other duties as required.
  • Tire Separation: Operate the tire machine to detach rubber tires from wheels. Remove weights and stems, sort tires, and prepare rims for shipment.
  • Facility Maintenance: Collect and process dismantled core materials. Clear debris and identify safety hazards in customer areas. Perform additional duties as required.
  • Customer Assistance: Provide courteous support to customers as needed. Complete logs for regulatory and tracking purposes. Maintain stormwater control devices and assist in mechanical equipment maintenance.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to wear and maintain all required personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to basic safety protocols.
  • Capable of following verbal and written instructions, including understanding basic safety messages and labels.
  • Completion of safety, environmental, and code of conduct training is required.
  • Availability to work necessary hours, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
  • Able to work efficiently in various weather conditions, including rain, snow, and extreme temperatures.
  • Prior experience in automotive repair or dismantling is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Familiarity with automotive parts and retail customer interactions is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience with tools and machinery is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regular standing, walking, bending, and stretching are necessary for customer service, production, and safety responsibilities.
  • Manual dexterity for tool handling and the ability to lift 50 pounds are essential for routine tasks.
  • Ability to maintain the facility, including cleaning tasks such as mopping and sweeping.
  • Vision must be adequate to perform job functions safely.
  • Must be able to remain on feet (standing and walking) for the duration of the assigned shift.

Work Environment:

  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
  • Occasional exposure to minimal chemical hazards.
