As a key member of our team, reporting to the Leader of AppOps RTR & Overlays, the Senior Application Operations Specialist will serve as a hands-on subject matter expert in application management and Site Reliability Engineering.
Your role will involve driving insights related to applications and platforms while collaborating closely with technical teams to deliver and sustain cutting-edge payment solutions for our clientele.
You will take charge of maintaining, enhancing, tuning, and supporting Interac's high-performance payment systems. Your proactive approach will be essential in diagnosing, resolving, and mitigating application issues to ensure optimal performance and availability of national payment systems.
Your focus will be on developing application automation across all environments, promoting proactive observability, detection, and self-healing capabilities. You will respond to escalated critical alerts and take action to mitigate any potential service disruptions.
Additionally, you will maintain end-to-end production stability and ensure compliance with Prominent Payment System (PPS) standards for Canadian payment systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive and prioritize initiatives aimed at enhancing application stability and service automation, ensuring compliance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Optimize application performance by leveraging performance data and monitoring tools to consistently achieve service excellence.
- Analyze trends in application testing and production, proactively identifying and addressing emerging issues with Agile teams, conducting thorough root cause analyses, and diving into code for tuning and enhancements.
- Develop scalable solutions to minimize manual interventions and streamline application deployment and validation processes (self-healing, auto-scaling, etc.).
- Enhance the application build, development, and testing processes by integrating and streamlining all facets of Application Operations.
- Implement application changes, configurations, and code promotions across all environments through automation, ensuring the performance, reliability, and stability of our systems.
- Design and standardize enhanced application insights, focusing on observability and predictive analysis for proactive interventions.
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical and support documentation for our applications and systems.
- Consolidate and automate dashboards, events, and reports on application performance metrics and KPIs.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance, ensuring application security, technology currency, and remediation of vulnerabilities while fostering continuous process improvement and service resilience.
- Respond to and resolve escalated issues swiftly, providing 24/7 rotating on-call production support while proactively mitigating risks to production systems.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3+ years of programming experience in languages such as Java, Python, Spring Framework, AngularJS, etc.
- Proficiency in version control systems like Git for managing codebases and collaboration.
- Experience with scripting languages such as PowerShell, Python, and Ansible.
- Familiarity with microservices and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker).
- Experience using monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, and ServiceNow.
- Understanding of AKS architectural concepts, including clusters, namespaces, nodes, pods, services, autoscaling, and ingress policies.
- Strong knowledge of Agile development methodologies and frameworks (e.g., JIRA, GitHub).
- Comprehension of the software lifecycle, including release planning, release processes, software testing, incident management, and change management.
- Familiarity with various open-source packages, preferably Spring, Apache, and data transformation formats (JSON, XML).
- Ability to analyze data effectively, identifying and mitigating risks to production systems.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging with internal and external stakeholders.
- A strong team player, able to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders in a team environment.
- Experience with Red Hat OpenShift (e.g., deploying applications, automating tasks, configuring, and monitoring metrics).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) Certification.
- Familiarity with DevOps principles.
- Understanding of database systems such as Oracle and PostgreSQL.
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate (or similar certifications across AWS, GCP, etc.).
- Experience working within Agile teams.
- Background in Financial and Payment services.
- ITIL Certification.
