Financial Reporting Accountant

Position Overview:
Reporting directly to the Financial Controller, the successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the Financial Controller across various aspects of Financial Accounting. This includes responsibilities related to the general ledger, financial reporting, year-end audits, cash management, asset oversight, insurance administration, compliance, and internal controls.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the Financial Administrative Coordinator in their banking, contract, and investment administrative duties.
- Work collaboratively with different business units to ensure timely completion of the accounting period close.
- Prepare comprehensive financial statements, including cash flow and note disclosures, in compliance with Canadian GAAP for both internal and external stakeholders.
- Generate financial analyses and management reports, including KPIs, for management and relevant committees.
- Conduct compliance testing of the organization's financial policies, internal controls, and process efficiencies; identify risk areas and develop mitigation strategies under the guidance of the Financial Controller and Senior Management.
- Optimize and manage the vendor payment process.
- Administer insurance programs, including general commercial liabilities, property, and Workers' Compensation.
- Assist the Financial Controller in preparing analytical reviews of financial statements, presenting key insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Support the Financial Controller in coordinating the annual financial statement audit and external statutory audits.
- Help formulate accounting policies in alignment with Canadian GAAP.
- Ensure compliance with financial, tax, and other statutory reporting requirements.
- Facilitate cross-training and development initiatives for the Financial Accounting staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Possession of a CPA designation (completed or nearing completion) with a strong understanding of Canadian GAAP and Federal/Provincial tax regulations.
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in not-for-profit sectors, with experience in property management, long-term care facilities, or hospitals, as well as cost analysis being advantageous.
- Proficient in MS Office applications and Sage ACCPAC accounting software.
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with robust analytical, leadership, and problem-solving abilities.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills in both English and Cantonese.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing excellent customer service to both internal and external clients.
- Demonstrated work ethic, ownership, and confidentiality.
- Creative thinker with a self-driven and motivated approach.
- Ability to thrive under pressure and meet deadlines proactively.
- Willingness to work extended hours to fulfill reporting obligations.
