Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team at Valard Group of Companies. As an Estimator, you will be responsible for compiling cost estimates for clients and potential clients, working closely with our engineering team to ensure accurate and competitive bids.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assemble comprehensive estimates from various sources, including material, labor, and equipment costs, to provide a complete and final estimate for the company.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of indirect and conceptual estimating techniques and theories to ensure accurate and competitive bids.
  • Review and validate outsourced estimates with support from engineers to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Review and incorporate historical data from estimates received, contracts awarded, and final actual project costs into our cost model to improve estimating accuracy.
  • Format estimates in Owners Reporting format to ensure clarity and consistency.
  • Review and understand Design Basis, Engineering Design Documents, and Basis of Estimate to ensure accurate and complete estimates.
  • Develop complete estimates on selected projects, including project site visits, quantity take-offs, pricing, and presentations for cost engineering and management review.
  • Provide estimating input on complex conceptual transmission projects to ensure accurate and competitive bids.
  • Provide guidance and support to non-estimating personnel on estimating-related requirements.
  • Attend and participate in project planning sessions and team meetings to provide estimating input and ensure alignment with company goals.
  • Interface and communicate effectively with the estimating team, management, clients, and industry contacts to ensure accurate and timely estimates.
  • Develop or assist in the development of general and project-specific plans for execution, sequencing, and logistics, including construction and work procedures for specific activities related to a bid.
  • Develop or assist in the development of preliminary project schedules to ensure timely completion of projects.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Management Certificate, or equivalent combination of relevant experience and education.
  • 1-3 years of estimating, cost control, and/or engineering experience in projects ranging from $1M to $50M.
  • Experience within an electrical construction role is an asset.
  • Understanding of construction documents and the ability to assess the level of completeness.
  • Developed technical knowledge of estimating practices, techniques, and equipment.
  • Accurate data input and calculating skills.
  • Knowledge of construction costs and budgets, ability to develop a project schedule.
  • Solid computer skills, proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Project, and Excel.
  • Able to read drawings and specifications.
  • The ability to work in a team environment.
  • Able to communicate effectively in both written and oral form.
  • Ability to validate proposals, manage multiple priorities, and work under pressure with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to identify problems/issues, look beyond the immediate problem to the wider implications, and generate possible solutions.
