Reporting directly to the Director of Engineering, the Senior Civil Engineering Lead will possess extensive knowledge and skills in civil engineering, particularly in earthworks and mine site civil infrastructure.
This proactive individual will be responsible for overseeing the execution of the civil technical scope of work across various studies, projects, or packages.
Additional technical responsibilities may be assigned by Project Managers, Engineering Managers, or Project Directors as necessary.
A primary focus of this role is to mitigate risks and identify opportunities to enhance value within the engineering scope of the assigned study, project, or package.
This position will initially be based in Vancouver, with a transition to the mine site during the construction phase.
Utilize civil engineering expertise to aid in the development of the Scope of Work (SOW) for designated projects within the department.
Lead the establishment of a review process for technical documents as required, ensuring timely coordination and feedback to consultants.
Act as a liaison between the engineering contractor and the project team, maintaining accountability for monitoring and managing the scope, cost, schedule, and quality of engineering contractor outputs.
Collaborate with Teck's Engineering Manager to ensure that the requirements of key subject areas, including Health & Safety, Sustainability, Risk Management, Technology & Digital Systems, Social, Environmental, Regulatory and Permitting, and Value Improvement Practices, are comprehensively addressed in engineering design.
Ensure compliance with the Design Basis in all engineering activities.
Prepare Technical Decision Memorandums that outline the rationale and justification for significant decisions.
Engage directly with consultants and contractors regarding matters related to the technical area of expertise.
May assist in the development of estimates and participate in trade-off studies and economic evaluations.
A Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline relevant to the technical expertise required for this role is essential.
A minimum of 10 years of technical oversight of project work scopes within the resource sector is required.
Experience in major infrastructure, mining, and/or process plant projects is necessary.
Demonstrated technical proficiency in the required specialty areas.
Training and experience in project management systems, along with an understanding of various phases of project execution, are important.
Previous construction and field experience is preferred.
Experience as an owner's team representative or as an EPCM contractor, with a foundational understanding of project controls, scope management, and quality management, is advantageous.
Proven understanding of the concepts of 'fit for purpose' and 'value engineering' is essential.
Able to prioritize tasks and outcomes to support the achievement of key project performance indicators.
Strong critical and conceptual thinking skills, coupled with knowledge of overall project implementation management processes, are required.
A motivated self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
Experience in creating and delivering technical presentations, along with proven report writing capabilities.
Excellent organizational, planning, and decision-making skills are necessary.
Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PPTX, and Outlook.
Management of Self - Leads by example, demonstrating a hands-on approach and fostering a positive and open environment.
Building Relationships - Treats colleagues with respect and maintains professional working relationships across teams, departments, and the organization.
