Job Summary

The UNIX Analyst is a key role in the development, implementation, and administration of information technology (IT) projects or operational work for the Government of Alberta. As a UNIX Analyst, you will use your diverse IT expertise and experience with the Unix family of operating systems to develop and support hosting solutions for ministry line of business applications and operate independently on assigned work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with clients to determine priorities and requirements and respond to priority changes as required.
  • Participate in testing, debugging, and performance tuning.
  • Monitor and maintain the underlying technology (i.e., servers, appliances, and applications) that is supported by the team.
  • Identify risks or issues and proactively update and upgrade the services supported by the team accordingly.
  • Recommend changes or enhancements for applicable information technology services/products.
  • Understand, interpret, transfer, translate, and resolve customer, system, application, and procedure requirements or problems relating to various products and services, resulting in improved process functionality.
  • Work with Team Leads to help build and design forms and workflows to fit Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) Standards.
  • Troubleshoot, identify, and resolve issues identified as a result of network and other activities monitoring and logs analysis.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate strong communication skills to explain IT concepts, consult with stakeholders, and guide those with varying degrees of systems understanding (none to expert).
  • Exhibit initiative and creativity in identifying and implementing new technologies and procedures.
  • Display strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, lead and mentor junior employees, and work within deadline constraints.
