Winter Ski Patrol Volunteer

Position Overview

The Winter Ski Patrol Volunteer plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of skiers on the mountain. This position involves providing first aid, inspecting trails, and assisting guests under the guidance of experienced officers.

Key Responsibilities

First Aid Duties

  • Deliver first aid and facilitate the transport of injured individuals
  • Regularly check and maintain rescue equipment
  • Assist with dispatch responsibilities as assigned
  • Help maintain patrol facilities (rest area, clinic, etc.)
  • Aid in evacuating individuals from ski lifts when necessary

Trail Safety Management

  • Conduct daily safety checks in designated areas
  • Secure slopes within assigned sectors
  • Open trails by assessing conditions and potential hazards
  • Ensure trails are closed at the end of the day or during emergencies
  • Educate guests on proper mountain behavior

Preventative Measures

  • Enforce health and safety protocols with guests
  • Support prevention efforts in challenging situations
  • Assist children and novice skiers as required

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with various departments within the organization
  • Foster a positive and supportive environment
  • Perform other related duties as needed

Qualifications and Skills

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Proficient skier, telemark skier, or snowboarder
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting
  • Completion of an accredited Ski First Aid course is required
  • Completion of a Mountain First Aid course is required
  • Completion of C.R. Level 'C' course is required
  • Successfully pass both oral and practical exams, including ski descent with a stretcher and an injured person
  • Previous experience in patrol is advantageous

Schedule and Commitment

  • Commitment required from the start to the end of the ski season
  • Weekend volunteering every other weekend (7:30 am to 4:30 pm)
  • Weekday volunteering at least one day per week (8:30 am to 4:30 pm)
