Lead Virtualization Engineer

Americare Senior Living of West Tennessee is in search of a proficient Virtualization Engineer to enhance our team. We are looking for an individual with a wealth of experience in virtualization technologies to architect, implement, and sustain our virtual infrastructure. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in VMware services and tools, along with expertise in programming and scripting languages.

Key Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field; six years of relevant experience; or a suitable combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 4 years of professional experience with VMware services and tools.
  • Hands-on experience with bare-metal installations of VMware infrastructure.
  • Proven experience in constructing and managing multiple VMware products across various remote sites and data centers.
  • At least 2 years of programming experience in one or more of the following languages: Java, C++, Perl, Python, Ruby, or advanced Shell scripting.

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Practical experience with Infrastructure-As-Code, automating deployments, cluster management, and systems security within a CI/CD Pipeline.
  • Familiarity with VMware on Cloud (VMC) on AWS.
  • Experience managing VMware infrastructure in a large enterprise setting.
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes in relation to containers and Microservices principles.
  • Consistent practice of producing, maintaining, and versioning system documentation.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Serve in a technical leadership role: Mentor junior engineers and new team members, applying technical expertise to complex programming and design challenges.
  • Design and develop highly available, fault-tolerant VMware infrastructure solutions.
  • Establish standards and guidelines for the design, development, tuning, deployment, and maintenance of VMware infrastructure, including backup, upgrades, and automation processes.
  • Proactively identify and suggest updates to software or architecture as needed to prevent capacity limitations.
  • Create automated responses to incidents to minimize the need for manual intervention.
  • Promote system metrics (MTBF, MTTR, etc.) and communicate them to decision-makers regularly.
  • Manage issue and ticket priorities and participate in a rotating on-call schedule with other team members, including weekends.
