About the Role

Vancouver Coastal Health is seeking a Recreation Coordinator to join our team at the Willingdon Creek Village in Powell River, BC.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in a team-based environment to develop and implement recreation programs in consultation with the Recreation Therapist.
  • Perform duties including:
  • Organizing and overseeing patients/residents on outings.
  • Coordinating the transportation of patients/residents to and from activities.
  • Demonstrating techniques of recreation activities.
  • Carrying out prescribed adaptations to recreation activities to enable patients/residents to maintain maximum potential for independence as per the instruction of the Recreation Therapist.
  • Providing functional direction to volunteers.
  • Evaluating and reporting relevant observations of patients' progress/participation to the Recreation Therapist or interdisciplinary team.
  • Organizing furnishings and equipment for designated activities.
  • Maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Operating a bus with a passenger seating capacity of up to 25 passengers (including the driver) to transport patients/residents to and from community participation activities as required by site/program.

Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Recreation Diploma Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Valid Class 4 vehicle license (unrestricted) may be required.

  • Ability to teach.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
