The Recreation Therapist is a key member of the Simcoe County team, responsible for delivering high-quality programming, therapy, and support services to residents in long-term care facilities. As a Recreation Therapist, you will work closely with the interdisciplinary team to assess, plan, and implement resident-centered programs that promote physical, emotional, and social well-being.
Key Responsibilities- Assess and develop resident-centered programs that meet individual needs and preferences
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure seamless delivery of services
- Communicate effectively with residents, families, and staff to ensure understanding and buy-in
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance resident care and services
- Develop and maintain relationships with community partners to enhance resident engagement and participation
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Recreation and Leisure studies, Therapeutic Recreation, Kinesiology, or related field
- Ontario Smart Serve certificate or equivalent
- Maintain certification in AIS testing and Food Handlers Certification
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of word-processing and spreadsheet application skills
- Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening
- Valid Ontario driver's license and clean driver's abstract
- 1 year of experience as an Activationist or Recreation Therapist
- Gentle Persuasive Approach Certification
- Montessori Methods for Dementia training
- Bilingualism in English and French
This role requires working in a fast-paced environment with frequent physical contact and exposure to infectious diseases. A valid Ontario driver's license and clean driver's abstract are required for this position.
