Job Title: Master Data Researcher

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Master Data Researcher to join our team at Employment and Social Development Canada. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a research project focused on the characterization of ground ice in Nunavut's Kivalliq region.

Job Summary:

The Master Data Researcher will be responsible for conducting research in the field of geography and environmental science, with a focus on permafrost ground ice characterization. The successful candidate will work closely with our team to collect and analyze data, and will have the opportunity to present their findings at scientific conferences.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct research in the field of geography and environmental science, with a focus on permafrost ground ice characterization
  • Collect and analyze data related to ground ice content and geotechnical properties
  • Present research findings at scientific conferences
  • Collaborate with our team to develop and implement research methods and protocols
Requirements:
  • Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution with acceptable specialization in Geography or Earth Sciences
  • Knowledge of the physical geography of cold regions
  • Knowledge of one of the following (or a combination): geographic information systems (GIS), hydrology, Quaternary Paleogeography and geomorphology
  • Ability to work in the field in remote areas
  • Ability to work alone and in a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively within the team, academic and governmental partners
Working Conditions:

The student hired under this RAP will undertake their MSc project within the department of geography, environment and geomatics, at the University of Ottawa, which is in downtown Ottawa (Ontario). A graduate studies program undertaken in collaboration with Natural Resources Canada means developing leadership skills, fostering teamwork, and supporting creativity and innovation.
