Position Overview:

Reporting to the Senior Director of Model Validation and Risk Analytics, the Director will oversee valuation models essential for measuring market, credit, and liquidity risks, encompassing all derivatives, credit, fixed income, equity instruments, and alternative investments. The role involves contributing to the development and upkeep of risk models, focusing primarily on market risk, exposure measurement, and country and FX risk. Additionally, the Director will engage in the formulation and adherence to policies governing model risk and advise on suitable IT infrastructure for risk management, while also providing ad hoc analyses for senior management inquiries.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development, validation, and implementation of valuation and risk models across various functional teams, including quantitative consultants, IT analysts, developers, and data specialists.
  • Propose, implement, and maintain suitable controls for model development and testing, ensuring documentation aligns with requirements from internal and external auditors and other governance stakeholders.
  • Oversee the performance, training, and onboarding of team members involved in developing HOOPP's valuation and risk models.
  • Construct models using Python for both production and prototyping, validate models, and conduct ad-hoc analyses.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with other risk leaders and financial professionals in risk, trading, and finance departments to create effective risk and valuation models.
  • Collaborate with IT and team members to develop and implement models, utilizing techniques that encourage automated processing and production-level development practices.
  • Work closely with the internal controls group and external auditors during their review and validation of risk and valuation processes and models.
  • Identify innovative solutions for unique product valuation and risk calculations, particularly in alternative investments and exotic derivatives.
  • Provide senior management with ad hoc analyses related to risk and valuation models.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in building valuation and risk models for both alternative and capital market investments using Python.
  • Familiarity with third-party software for risk management, particularly for valuing financial instruments, is advantageous (e.g., Blackrock's Aladdin, SS&S RiskWatch, or MSCI).
  • Experience in modeling alternative assets is a plus.
  • A Master's degree in a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics, Finance, or Actuarial Science.
  • Professional finance designation (CFA, FRM, PRM) is preferred.
  • At least 10 years of experience in quantitative finance.
  • Experience in project management across multi-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of best practices for model development, both at the code level and in general methodologies.
  • Strong collaboration and relationship management skills, with the ability to enhance relationships across various teams.
  • Capacity to build and inspire strong technical contributors.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
