Position Overview

The City of Mississauga is seeking a dedicated professional to oversee and manage the annual Traffic Signal Contract and associated activities. This role is essential for ensuring the safe and effective functioning of traffic control signals throughout the city.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain and operate the traffic signal system in compliance with established engineering standards and procedures.
  • Prepare and manage tenders and agreements while ensuring alignment with the City's operational guidelines.
  • Review legal documentation to ensure compliance with engineering standards and legal requirements.
  • Ensure that the inventory requirements for the current signal program are fulfilled.
  • Conduct thorough reviews of Capital and Maintenance Projects to verify the accuracy of information and adherence to auditing standards, ensuring financial compliance with Capital and Operating Budgets.
  • Manage traffic signal projects and systems, including communications and other supporting systems.
  • Audit contractor invoicing and manage third-party invoicing processes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned or required.
Qualifications and Skills
  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Certified Engineering Technologist or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in municipal Traffic Engineering practices, specifically involving Traffic Signals and Systems.
  • Strong knowledge of Advanced Transportation Management Systems (ATMS), including Traffic Signal Control Systems and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of applicable regulations, standards, and safety acts.
  • Proven experience in project management and program implementation.
  • Ability to apply audit practices and develop solutions to enhance transparency and compliance.
  • A valid Ontario Class 'G' driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle for site evaluations.

Compensation: $86 per hour, totaling $115,812 annually.
Work Schedule: 35 hours per week.
Department: Transportation & Works Department, Traffic Management & Municipal Parking Division.
