The Business Advisory Services Analyst, under the guidance of the Manager of Business Improvement Services, will deliver analytical and project support across various service domains. Utilizing strong capabilities in business enhancement, financial modeling, and statistical evaluation, this role will significantly contribute to data-informed decision-making and strategic planning initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Create and present feasibility studies, operational assessments, and business cases, underpinned by metrics that identify trends in budget and business planning processes, work plans, and key initiatives.
- Assist in crafting innovative proposals for continuous improvement projects or new business concepts, aligned with the strategic priorities of the City.
- Evaluate and articulate the value proposition (financial and resource implications) of specific projects or programs, detailing business benefits, quantified value, costs/ROI, resource implications, and risks associated with inaction.
- Produce reports and maintain divisional statistics, while updating key performance indicators and metrics, monitoring, reporting, and providing recommendations for efficiencies, continuous improvement, and innovation.
- Lead and facilitate workshops to gather business requirements and map current and future business processes, supporting strategic projects and initiatives with various stakeholders.
- Conduct business process analysis to pinpoint inefficiencies and recommend redesigns of departmental and divisional software solutions to meet business and system requirements.
- Oversee and provide input for operating and capital budgets, ensuring accurate and concise periodic reporting to management.
- Develop reports, facilitate discussions, presentations, briefings, and financial summaries using tools such as Excel, MS Project, Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services, and Crystal Reports as necessary.
- Manage the administration of project management tracking and reporting tools, creating supporting documentation and training materials as required.
- Execute market research, develop benchmarks, and establish performance measures.
- Adhere to relevant City policies and legislative requirements.
- Provide consultation and business advice to Divisional Management Teams and Directors as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned or required.
- Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as Business, Commerce, Social Sciences, Planning, Political Science, or a related discipline, or a combination of education, training, and experience deemed equivalent, with a focus on business planning, analytics, and reporting in a governmental or business context.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in the development and analysis of business plans/cases and performance reporting (municipal or public sector experience preferred).
- Proven proficiency in business intelligence software (Power BI, Tableau, QlikView, Oracle BI, etc.) and the ability to utilize these tools for data analysis, reporting, and effective communication. Strong computer skills, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience in facilitating and documenting business requirements, processes, and technical specifications is essential.
- Exceptional analytical, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal skills with a strong emphasis on customer service.
- Strategic thinker regarding business issues.
- Demonstrated organizational, analytical, research, decision-making, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
